School Initiatives
This year Scoil Iósaf is focusing on developing STEM methodologies throughout the school. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) is a key approach being taken to develop the learners skills in these areas.
In Scoil Iósaf, we are very lucky with the facilities around the periphery of the school. We have a school hall, fine yard space, and a green area. Children experience a variety of sports and get a taster from internal and external coaches.
The school was recently awarded the Active Flag in recognition of their efforts to promote increased physical activity among the school community. In Scoil Iósaf, children are given the opportunity to try out new sports and to participate in an Active Week and Sports Day each year.
In Scoil Iósaf we have always fostered environmental awareness. Back in 2004 we decided to participate in the Green Schools Programme and to date we are the proud winners of 6 green flags.
The School Garden is a place where children can experience for themselves the joys of growing their own plants including vegetables and flowers. Each year, our children plant pumpkins, carrots, cress, salad leaves, and beetroot, potatoes to name but a few from a seed and watch them grow in the garden. They take great care from watering them to weeding them. They gain a great insight into agriculture and food.
